Today’s Outfit: Blanket Scarves

A short message on my blogging absence:

Needless to say it’s been a while. When I started this blog I was one of those girls who “wasn’t going to fall into blogging ruts.” I have so many ideas, so many new blog topics bubbling in my brain in a daily basis, how could I go days or weeks without posting? I was so nieve. I have so much respect for the many bloggers I follow who post on a daily basis with marvelous photos and flawless text, how do they have the time? And honestly, how do they have the motivation? I think I lost a little bit of myself in the first weeks, maybe months I began scratching the surface of the blogging world. I want to have a blog like her or her or her I would tell myself, and in that I started to forget why I started blogging in the first place.

I started blogging to express myself and share my life with others to hopefully benefit them in some way or another. But right now, looking at what I have accomplished so far I’m not sure to what extent I have done that. So here comes another change, I’m going to try to focus on making my posts a little more me. I know I can still get there someday, so don’t give up on me yet. Those million blogging ideas in my brain, they are still there and I am going to write about them all.

Before I mention anything about myself, my day or my outfit I want to take a moment to address the series of attacks in Paris this evening. My heart is broken as I read the latest statistics reporting that well over 100 people have been killed in the attacks. Social media is blowing up with the hashtags #PrayforParis and #PeaceforParis. Please take a moment to send the citizens of Paris your thoughts and prayers in this horrific time and also to thank God for the many blessings of life. In the midst of such heartbreaking events I can’t help but think about how completely blessed I am.  In the wise words of Albert Einstein: “The world will not be destroyed by those who do evil, but by those who watch them without doing anything.”

For me personally today was a wonderful day. Yes, I know it is Friday the 13th, the oh-so-spooky superstitious day known for horrible things, but my day was great despite the clouded skies and chilly breeze. I spent my evening out with my boyfriend getting sushi at my favorite restaurant, singing in the car to extremely loud rap songs and finally coming home to my warm bed feeling so blessed.

My outfit today I feel reflected this mood. I simply wore a light wash pair of skinny jeans with my new knee high boots, a warm white sweater and of course my new, most favorite blanket scarf ever. I’m completely obsessed with the blanket scarf fad and can’t wait to purchase more in every plaid color combination possible! They keep me so warm and cozy, plus can be worn many many different ways. They are the perfect piece for this chilly season.

What made you feel blessed today?

Pins of the Week 10/16/15

I can’t believe it’s already been a whole week since I first started my Pins of the Week series. As I have been laid up quite a bit due to a mild case of bronchitis I naturally spent a lot of time on Pinterest. So here are my favorite pins of this week:

Pin #1: I have always loved the short sleeve sweater over a long sleeve look but have always been afraid to try it for myself! I love the way this specific sweater is paired with the stripes, it adds a whole new dimension to the look. Pin #2: KATE SPADE…do I even have to say more? This is the purse I have been eyeing for the last few months, if only I was willing to fork over the money! Pin #3: I just love this dress so much. It’s so unique. How fun would this be to have in your closet for fall!?

Pin #4: I love squash, but I would never think to have it on pizza! I’m a bit skeptical of this one, but I’m definitely interested in trying it! It looks phenomenal. Pin #5: For some odd reason I have been binge-pinning anything french toast/churro related lately and this happened to be the yummiest looking one of the bunch. Pin #6: I have probably tried the caesar salad at every restaurant within 50 miles, I love them that much. This one looks so delicious with the grilled chicken, toast and the dressing recipe sounds to die for!!

We all need a few words of wisdom now and then, this week these were mine…

With October now in full swing I figured some fall inspired DIY projects would be fit. Pin #10: How cute are those hand warmers!? I may be giving them a try myself! Pin #11: These glitter pumpkins are made with materials from Dollar Tree! Lauren from The Thinking Closet sure made them look much more expensive. #12: A little chalk board paint and a thinly cut log would make such a cute fall sign. I love it!!

Transitioning Summer to Fall

This striped t-shirt dress is one of my favorite dresses from summer. I grabbed it at (where else) Target this past July and it became a staple for me all summer long. As the weather gets chillier it is still one of my favorite pieces. The common belief that summer clothes must be tucked away at the end of summer isn’t always true. There are tons of fun and fashionable ways to transition your clothing throughout the seasons. For this look I simply added a black knit infinity scarf to fend off the cold, and paired it with my favorite pair of white converse. Here are a few simple ways to transition summer clothes into fall:

1.) Scarves:

As seen in today’s outfit scarves are a cozy and cute way to make a summery dress perfect for the colder weather. Pair your favorite dresses or summer shirts with cute infinity scarves, knit scarves and (my new fav) blanket scarves.

2.) Boots:

Short or tall, boots are another great accessory to add to your summer pieces to keep your tootsies warm. I’m loving shorter booties this season, but rider boots are another great option to pair with a dress or even a pair of jeans and a flowery top.

3.) Cardigans:

Don’t put your tank tops away just yet, throw on a cardigan to fend off the cold and keep your favorite summer tanks in style for fall.

5 ways to pray

Although I haven’t talked much about it yet, I have a very close relationship with God. My Church and my relationship with Him have been a big part of my life since I can remember. But I understand, sometimes it’s hard to pray. It sounds silly, but it’s reality. We all get so wrapped up in life that when we sit down at night we sometimes come up blank, we simply don’t know what to say or how to say it. Here are my top 5 favorite ways to pray when I feel that I am in a rut:

1.) Write it down:

Writing is obviously something I enjoy. I’ve always loved writing but I never really thought of it as a way to pray, until I saw this post from Sadie Robertson. (If you don’t know who she is, look her up! She’s a member of the Duck Dynasty family, but she also models for  Sheri Hill, is becoming an incredible young entrepreneur of her own and also serves as a wonderfully Godly role model for young girls!) In her post Sadie talks about a prayer she had written for her future husband.

2.) Read a verse:

This is something I have actually done for a while now. I like to sit down with my bible and flip to a random page or jump on Pinterest to find a bible verse quote. Once I have one chosen I kind of analyze it for a while. If it’s in my bible I highlight/underline phrases I specifically like and write little thoughts in the margin. Once I finish this I begin to apply it to my own life and pray about it to God.

3.) Draw a picture:

For this one I usually repeat the same process as I do when I read a verse, but I like to throw in an extra step and doodle a little. I grab my favorite Papermate Flair markers and write the verse in fun handwriting, sometimes I add fun patterns of dots and lines, even doodle some flowers! Check out my God is Good board on Pinterest for inspiration.

4.) Pray with a friend/family member:

Praying with other people can be a very rewarding experience. Even if it’s as simple as reciting a scripted prayer. Pray together before a meal, before bed, or before travelling away from one another. Build your relationship with God with the people you love, build a Godly relationship together!

5.) Have a conversation with God:

I think we all kind of get in this mindset that when we speak to God we have to use big formal language like we see our pastors or preachers do in church. That isn’t necessarily the way to do it. God is your friend, your family and your father, speak to him as you would when consoling with a friend or family member. Cast your troubles, fears, thanks and happiness upon him as you would in your normal speech.

Todays Outfit: Faux Fur Vest

IMG_0494 IMG_0521

I have been eyeing every faux fur vest I have seen for the last two years, and I finally gave in. For as long as I can remember I have loved fashion, my mom told me once that she never had to pick out my outfits, I always wanted to choose my own. This love of fashion has led me many times to gravitate towards more flashy pieces, but my confidence hasn’t always allowed me to actually buy or wear them. Lately I’ve been more confident and determined to wear those pieces that are a “little out there.” So I finally bought a faux fur vest, it helped that it was half price at H&M for $20.

I paired the vest with a simple black long sleeve and a pair of dark wash skinny jeans. I accessorized with my favorite pair of suede booties and finished off the look off with simple gold circle studs and my go to long necklace.

How would you style a faux fur vest?

Overnight Oats

IMG_0468 Overnight Oats are easily becoming one of my favorite breakfast meals. Overnight Oats is basically oatmeal mixed with Greek yogurt, fruit, seeds and anything else you can imagine, left in the fridge overnight. It’s a simple, easy and delicious planned meal for those early mornings without time to cook a healthy breakfast.

So how do you make Overnight Oats? It’s super-duper quick, easy and simple:

My recipe:

  • Half cup to 1 Cup Instant/Quick uncooked oatmeal *Note: Many recipes I have seen call for old fashion rolled oats instead of instant oatmeal or steel cut oatmeal, it’s really up to you what you prefer! I like the regular oatmeal.
  • Half cup Greek Yogurt
  • Handful of raspberries
  • Spoonful of flax-seed
  • A few dark chocolate chips
  • Spoonful of Honey
  • Drizzle of Almond Milk

I like to simply layer my ingredients in a mason jar and mix it with my spoon before I eat it, but mixing it beforehand is also an option! When you have layered/mixed your ingredients together close the jar and place it in the fridge overnight. When you’re ready for breakfast the next morning, simply pop open your jar and enjoy!

The recipe I have listed only scratches the surface of what can be mixed in Overnight Oats, other ingredients I love in my oats include: bananas, strawberries, blueberries, apples, blackberries, peaches, chia seeds, PB2, vanilla protein powder, chocolate protein powder, and peanut butter.

4 Lip Favorites for Fall

Fall is here, I say it again! I love the turning of the season, but my lips never seem to. They become so dry so quickly in the cold weather. Luckily I have found some great products for moisturizing my lips and keeping them soft. All products can be found at your local Walgreens or Target! Here are the top 4 things I’m wearing on my lips this Fall:

Baby Lips 05 Quenched Lip Balm:

I was just beginning to touch the surface of the makeup world when Baby Lips first came out, and I had to have every shade of the new lip balm. Comparing them today to the many other lip products I have tried since, they aren’t really that great. Except for this one. The classic clear balm has been one of my favorite lip products since day one. It has a slight fruity smell and taste to it, and also has 20 SPF for protection from the sun. It’s very moisturizing and perfect to apply over a dryer shade of lipstick.

Rimmel Lipstick 124 Bordeaux:

I very rarely wear anything of color on my lips, but when I do I prefer to do so in the fall and I prefer for it to be a deep shade. I picked this lipstick up just a few weeks ago and have already worn it several times. Its dark red color is perfect for Fall and it lasts for hours! Even when the top coat begins to fade it still leaves a faint stain on your lips. Also compared to other lipsticks I have used it is very moisturizing, I never need a gloss or anything on top!

Chapstick Pumpkin Pie:

The origonal Chapstick brand has always been my go to lip product, and I think this holds true for most people. The classic chapstick is small, inexpensive and high quality. I had to grab the Pumpkin Pie one when I saw it in the store earlier this week, and I love it! It smells just like pumpkin pie and reminds me of Fall. Also if you aren’t a fan of pumpkin check out Chapstick’s Cake Batter, another favorite of mine!

Nivea Lip Butter Cocoa Butter Kiss:

I’ve been wanting to try a lip butter for a while now and I’m so glad this is the one I chose. It smells just like coconut and goes on like literal butter, it is so smooth and moisturizing. If you lips dry out quickly this is the stuff for you! I can’t stop putting it on it just feels and smells so nice!
