Todays Outfit: Faux Fur Vest

IMG_0494 IMG_0521

I have been eyeing every faux fur vest I have seen for the last two years, and I finally gave in. For as long as I can remember I have loved fashion, my mom told me once that she never had to pick out my outfits, I always wanted to choose my own. This love of fashion has led me many times to gravitate towards more flashy pieces, but my confidence hasn’t always allowed me to actually buy or wear them. Lately I’ve been more confident and determined to wear those pieces that are a “little out there.” So I finally bought a faux fur vest, it helped that it was half price at H&M for $20.

I paired the vest with a simple black long sleeve and a pair of dark wash skinny jeans. I accessorized with my favorite pair of suede booties and finished off the look off with simple gold circle studs and my go to long necklace.

How would you style a faux fur vest?

Todays Outfit: Fall colors

Actually this outfit was from earlier this week. Who knew keeping up with school, work, a social life and a blog would be so time-consuming? Life gets so busy sometimes it’s unreal. I’ve been trying hard to keep up with everything and I’m learning it’s impossible. Before I talk about my outfit I just wanted to talk a little about handling my crazy life and some of my little ways to lessen the stress!

I will be honest I am not a very organized person. My room is almost always a mess and my mind matches. With all the things I have been doing lately I have had to make my mind at least a little more organized, here are a few of my tips:

Use a planner: My planner is my life. I write everything down in it, literally everything and I look through it every night to make sure it all gets done. There are so many cute ones in so many different formats and sizes, I purchased mine for about $8 at Target but Lilly Pulitzer has the cutest ones around.

Sticky note it: Along with my planner I always carry a pack of sticky notes in my bag. You can write extra little reminders to put inside your planner, or to stick where you will see them (on your bathroom mirror, in your car, on your desk).

Carry a BAG not a purse: Being constantly on the go I have found that those cute little cross bodies are not for me, I can never fit everything I need. Carrying a larger purse or bag allows room for everything and room to keep those little extras always in your purse (i.e.: gum, pain killers, extra makeup bag, planner, etc).

Onto my outfit! Fall is among us and so is fall fashion. I picked up this dress from Forever 21 earlier this week and fell instantly in love with its color and its material. This style of dress has been popping up everywhere and so have the booties, which I am obsessed with by the way. I got this pair at (where else…) Target for around $35. For heels they are easy to walk in and comfortable.

Enjoy the Autumn weather!

See you soon.

Today’s Outfit: Back in Black

As August comes to an end summer is beginning to wind down here in Illinois, meaning one thing for me: fall clothes! Fall is my favorite season of the year and with the cloudy skies today it was the perfect time to dress for the season. I spent the day shopping with a friend and eating the best store-bought gelato on the market. Seriously, I am now obsessed with talenti gelato, the Coffee Chocolate Chip one is to die for! (TRY IT!)

Pretty much everything I wore today I have had in my closet for quite a while, the jeans are a pair I’ve been wearing for over a year now from Hollister. Don’t be afraid to re-wear clothing you have had for a while, I don’t know about you, but I don’t spend $30 on a shirt to wear it once or twice! Make the most out of the things you already have in your closet, you’ll be amazed by the fun outfits you can create.

The t-shirt I’m wearing is just a cheapie I picked up a while ago from Target, and the cardigan is from H&M. I can’t stress enough to invest in basics! A mistake that we all make is purchasing too many articles of print, or pieces that are not very versatile. Invest in a couple of plain tees, sweaters and tanks. Basic, plain colored clothing items are essential to any outfit and easily accessorize.

The booties I wore today are actually a pair from last winter, I picked them up at Kohls during a sale at the end of the fall season. They have been one of my favorite items in my closet since. My bag is the only new item from my outfit today, I purchased it last week from (where else) Target on clearance for about $14. I finished my outfit off with my gold-plated black statement necklace. I’ve had it stashed away for a while now, it’s so versatile and I absolutely love it.

I just want to quickly mention my hair today; I tried something new. I’ve been seeing tons of girls wearing a little half bun lately and I’ve been wanting to try it. After a few tries I think I have the do mastered. It’s quick, easy and probably my go to hairstyle from now on!

Happy Sunday everyone.

Today at Target: End of Summer Sales

I’ve mentioned already that I am obsessed with Target. Being young and on a budget it’s typically my go to store for almost everything. Today I did a little mini haul, taking advantage of some really awesome deals in the mean time. I visit Target quite frequently so check back weekly for new posts on what I bought “Today at Target!”

What I bought:

First I picked up the cutest little thank you notes from the dollar section. I always keep a stash of thank yous in my desk, and I recommend to anyone and everyone to do the same! In today’s modern world of technology we often lose the value of saying thank you, as in taking the time to write a short, hand written note in a card. Target always has adorable thank you cards with envelopes in packs of 8 right in the dollar section. The ones I grabbed today have a simple flower graphic pattern and read thank you below.

The next thing I picked up were a pair of white, gold-plated dangling earrings. I am SO obsessed with this type of earring, I probably have 10 similar pairs in different colors. If you don’t already check out Target’s clearance section in accessories, I strongly advice you to every time you go. These adorable earrings dropped from their original price of $7.99 to a clearance price of $5.59. I will happily keep that extra $2.40 in my wallet!

Shoes was my next destination, the Super Target near my house has a GINORMOUS shoes section and it was my lucky day because all summer shoes were 50% off! And on top of that Cartwheel had another deal giving me another 25% off all shoes purchased today, 75% off! If you are not yet a Cartwheel user, Target’s coupon app, I am telling you now you should be. The app allows you to search up to 12 coupons and use them combined, you are able to scan items to search them and the best part is all the coupons you use are combined digitally into a single bar code to be scanned at the register. My beaded flip-flops originally sold for $29.99 with my combined discounts I purchased them for $6.73.

Finally I tried on a few items in the clothing department. I purchased a striped t-shirt dress along with a cute little beaded tank that can easily be transitioned from summer to fall. I found the tank in the clearance section dropped in price from $19.99 to $9.98. The t-shirt dress was full price at $19.99 but Target currently has a buy one get one half off sale on Mosimo dresses. So my shopping partner in crime (my mom) also purchased a dress so we could save 25% off each! I got the dress for a final price of $15.34.

So on today’s mini Target haul I spent around $40 on all the adorable items you see below!

Note: Unfortunately not all Target clearance items are priced the same online as they are in some stores, but be sure to check out your local Target store to see if they still have these items in stock! Also the thank you note cards cannot be purchased online, but different variations of these cards can be found in most Target store’s dollar sections. Although the prices fluctuate all other items I purchased today are listed below.

My all time favorites

Since I’m new here and so are you I figured my first (non-D.C.) post should be something to help you get to know me a little better, and what better way to get to know a girl than through her favorite beauty products (and maybe a few other things too)!

Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner

I have spent what seemed like endless dollars and time searching for the perfect eye liner. Every liner I have tried ends up smeared down  my eye lids after just a few hours of wear, or completely wiped off. But by the end of the day, through watery eyes and sweat, my Stila liner is almost always untouched. My favorite part about this liner, besides the fact it actually stays on my eyes, is how precise the thin felt tip is. You can achieve the thinnest of lines for perfect top liner or elegant wings.

Ulta: $20

Lorac Pro Palette

I have been a Naked girl for a while now, so when a friend of mine showed me her Lorac palette I was naturally a little leery, but also curious. With all the hype around Urban Decay’s Naked Palettes I did not buy the Lorac palette thinking I would love it more than my Nakeds, but I did and I really do. Unlike other shadows I have tried, the shadow in this palette is extremely soft, almost creamy (but it is NOT a cream shadow!). The seemingly dark colors blend out very nicely into much softer tones, and the lighter ones of the bunch are perfect for simple everyday wear. My top favorite shades include: Cream, Champagne, LT Bronz, Pewter and Mauve.

Ulta/Kohl’s: $42

Elf’s Clear Brow and Lash Mascara

If you have wild and bushy eye brows like mine this product will be your savior. I have been using this product consistently in my makeup routine for several years now. Simply brushing the clear mascara through my brows keeps them in place all day, I love it! There are a few downsides I have found throughout my use, but the price keeps me buying. When applying this product always make sure to do it at the end of your routine, or at least after foundation, concealor and powder. If applied before these products small, skin colored, gooey lumps form in your brows.

Target: $2

Redken Frizz Dismiss

My hair is not curly, it is not wavy, it is not thick, but my hair is extremely frizzy. I have tried pretty much every product I could find that claimed to defrizz my locks, but nothing has worked quite as well as the Redken Frizz Dismiss products have. There is a handful of products to choose from in this defrizzing collection, I currently use the shampoo and conditioner as well as several leave in products. What I like most about this collection is the frizz protection factor (FPF) the leave in products employ. I have products that range from FPF 10 to FPF 40, so on more humid days I choose a higher number, and on sunny days I go for a lower one.

Ulta: Frizz Dismiss Sulfate Free Shampoo and Conditioner $15.99, Frizz Dismiss Rebel Tame (40 FPF leave in cream) $22, Frizz Dismiss Instant Deflate (30 FPF leave in oil/gel) $22, Frizz Dismiss Smooth Force (20 FPF leave in spray), Frizz Dismiss Fly-Away Fix (10 FPF finishing sheets) $25

St Ives Blemish Control Apricot Scrub

I have had pretty nasty acne since I was about nine years old, I have tried various scrubs, washes and cleansers typically still resulting in occasional blemishes. Throughout this time of trying many products I have always held a special place in my heart for this simple scrub. Unlike other washes I love how clean this product makes my skin feel. I love to use it after a run or an extra sweaty day, it really opens up my pores and smells great too! (If used to often it can dry out your skin, so be careful when starting use. I typically use mine every other day!)

Target: $3.36

Other favorites

Despicable Me or Anything Minion: My boyfriend and I bought tickets a week before the Minion movie came out and saw the early showing.

Target: I’ve mentioned Target as my store of choice for several of the products above, well typically it’s my store of choice for everything.

American Flag Anything: I consider myself to be pretty patriotic and with this I own about six American flag shirts, two pairs of shorts, two hats, a scarf, a purse, a backpack and who knows how many other things.

Sushi: I am a huge eater (but I also weigh 107 lbs so I don’t know how that works). I can list on one hand all the foods I don’t  like, that’s how much I love eating. Sushi is the food group on the top of my list though.
